Turkey Challenge: Let's All Trot for Turkey
I have a challenge for those that are reading this! Before reading about what it is, just say yes!
Got the Post marathon blues? (I do, it's a thing and I am still not ready to blog about the race, but you can check out my course review on BibRave here MCM BibRave review )
Don't run marathons and have the I ate too much Halloween candy and I need some motivation to lose weight before the Holiday Season kicks off?
Sign up for Turkey Trot! Whether you are a runner or not a Thanksgiving race is a fun ACTIVE activity you and your family can do together before eating gracious grandiose amounts of food. It also is a good way to get motivated to stay in shape during the Holiday season.
I have been running Thanksgiving races since I picked up the sport in high school. One of my best friends and her dad invited me to run my first one and I have made it a holiday tradition. Back then, we had to travel 30 minutes out of the way to find the nearest Turkey Trot. Now thankfully (thanksgiving pun!) you can find at least one in every town. So no matter where you go for your Thanksgiving Feast, you should be able to find a local race to participate in the morning of.
Trust me, I even found one in LaGrange, GA a few years ago. To this day it is one of my favorites. It was free, there was free post race beer, AND I won a flamingo.
So my challenge for y'all is to sign up for a Turkey Trot and get at least one family or friend to do it with you.
You may be asking why? Why would I do this? I just want to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade while I wait to eat. My answer: you will not regret it. You will feel better for doing something different and hopefully starting a new family tradition. Remember my challenge isn't just to get you to run, it is to get you and someone else to join you. Plus you can get a cool t-shirt, a medal, and some races even give away free turkeys!
To find a Turkey Trot in the town you will be in go here Running in the USA
Last year, the fiance and I ran in a small Turkey Trot hosted by a high school in Maryville, TN and we are doing it again this year. I'm nice and signed him up, he is super excited.
We have a few weeks to get ready to trot and if you want to join the challenge let me know in the comments!
I will post a few training plans for a few distances this weekend! Let's get to TROTTING so we can feel better when we get to EATING ALL THE FOOD!

Medals are cool, don't you want this bling to wear at the Thanksgiving dinner table? |
